Historic Renovation and Accessibility Improvements for Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansions State Historic Park

IUnder a continuing service contract with the NYSOPRHP, Beardsley Architects + Engineers provided full architectural, structural, civil, and landscape architecture services to support the restoration of the historic mansion and surrounding features at Sonnenberg Gardens—a 52-acre estate dating back to the mid-1800s.
The project involved multiple exterior repairs and improvements designed to preserve the site’s historic character while enhancing functionality and ADA accessibility. Scope of work included:
- Accessible ramp and entry upgrades
- Restoration of porches and staircases
- Structural repairs to the Belvedere and Old Fashioned Pergolas
- Southeast Porch, Southwest Verandah, and North Stair rehabilitation
Beardsley worked closely with the NYSOPRHP to ensure that all new construction and materials remained consistent with the estate’s original architecture, honoring its legacy and visual integrity.
