Beardsley Architects + Engineers has received recognition in New York State’s Historic Business Preservation Registry, which honors historic businesses across the state. Administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, and requiring sponsorship from a current elected New York State official, the registry “highlights businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 years and have contributed to their communities’ history.” Beardsley was nominated for the registry by Assemblyman John Lemondes.
Founded in 1898 by Samuel Hillger in Auburn, New York, Beardsley Architects + Engineers has been an integral part of New York State for over a century. Since its founding 124 years ago, the firm has remained committed to providing design services across New York and beyond to a wide range of clients including governmental, educational, residential, manufacturing, not-for-profit, and commercial clients. Beardsley’s contributions to New York State are evident in the buildings that remain in use across the state to this day, from educational buildings to manufacturing facilities, offices, municipal buildings, and many more. Notable historic Beardsley projects throughout Auburn have included Auburn Junior High School, the Cayuga County Office Building, and projects at Cayuga Community College and Auburn Community Hospital. Recent projects in Cayuga County include the new Sterling Nature Center Visitors Center, the Nick’s Ride 4 Friends Support Center, and renovations at the Seymour Library.
Throughout the Firm’s history, Beardsley has experienced many triumphs, challenges, and changes over time. For some perspective: at the time of the firm’s founding in 1898, there were only 45 states in the Union. When the firm moved to 64 South Street, Auburn, NY, in 1949, GIs were beginning to deploy to the Korean War. In 2000 when the Malone and Syracuse offices joined the Beardsley family, smartphones and the internet were still in their infancy. All the while, Beardsley has remained an employee-owned company with a unique and special commitment to our clients, employees, and communities throughout New York State. “Our outlook into the future is strong,” says President Joseph S. Kime, P.E. “As we continue to grow our team and expand our services, we’re hopeful that the firm will continue to provide architectural and engineering services for another 100 years and beyond.”
