Developers, building owners, public housing authorities, financing agencies, and design professionals from across Central New York attended NYSERDA’s RetrofitNY Workshop on October 30, 2017 to learn more about the RetrofitNY program, how it relates to high-performance retrofit solutions for existing, affordable multifamily housing, and how they might participate. Barry Halperin and Nicolette Havrish represented Beardsley at the event and shared their input on ways the industry can be more innovative and collaborative within the structure of the program through case study and large group work sessions with others in attendance.
“NYSERDA’s RetrofitNY team is working to revolutionize the way New York renovates multifamily buildings to approach or achieve net-zero energy performance” prior to releasing a request for proposal in the coming months to develop solutions for multifamily housing statewide. The program is modeled after the Dutch Energiesprong Initiative and seeks to retrofit existing buildings to achieve net-zero energy performance with minimal disruption to tenants. NYSERDA has been interested in seeking feedback from experts and thought leaders in the housing and design-build industry in advance of the proposal release.
This business opportunity represents one of the newest efforts by NYSERDA to spur aggressive development of energy efficient, comfortable, healthy, and better-looking multifamily buildings. Beardsley is exploring opportunities now with our current and future design partners and clients to see how we can be more involved in this exciting initiative by forming teams to drive these transformative renovations and other projects we are working on.
Who should consider the program?
- Building owners, public housing authorities, and developers of affordable housing who own architecturally simple building(s) 7-stories or lower that are scheduled for a major upgrade in the next 12-30 months
- Architects, engineers, builders, manufacturers, high-performance (or passive house) building experts and solar PV providers that have the capacity to design and build high-performance retrofit solutions for affordable multifamily buildings
If you are interested in learning more about the program, please contact our office or NYSERDA at RetrofitNY for more information. We would be happy to discuss this and other opportunities available to you on your next project!
